The setting is gorgeous and Denis is a delightful host. The room was roomy and comfortable. Daily housekeeping would have been welcome, especially since I was feverish on the first night, and fresh sheets would have been appreciated. Hot breakfast options would have been nice. I now expect refrigerators in rooms, even if just for storing items I purchase.

The house has charm and the rooms are decorated in various styles. The bed was large and comfortable. The sea view is lovely. The garden is spacious and a good place to relax. You can park right on the street in front of the house. Breakfast is served in a dining room (or outdoors) by the owner himself, who brings the food directly to your table; if you want more, you have to ask. The owner was friendly. Our room, “Coquillage,” was on the first floor of the side building. The owner explained all the furnishings he had chosen himself, which were nice. However, there was no wardrobe or dresser. For the price, we would have preferred not to live out of a suitcase. There was only a fairly windy coat rack that didn’t match the other furniture. We told the owner that we missed a wardrobe. In the bathroom there was a bathtub with a very high rim, making it difficult for less mobile people to get in. The tub also doubles as a shower, but there was no splash guard and the shower hose was so short that it was almost impossible to hold it over the tub. Part of the faucet was taped with duct tape because something had broken a short time before, which looked unsightly but should be repaired soon. The antique washbasin was pretty but impractical. Overall, the room’s furnishings did not justify the high price for our taste, but we still enjoyed a few pleasant days in Normandy.
