The spot itself was great, and walking through the temple complex across the street at night was a cool experience; the room had a slight musty odor yet was clean, and the wooden plank at the entrance to the onsen pool was rotting and needs replacement.

I was blown away by the meals, especially the Buddhist vegetarian shōjin ryōri breakfast; the spot is right next to a temple and a food street, and the staff are kind and amazing, making it a 10/10 for me. I do enjoy the communal onsens, but my brother was uneasy that his room lacked a private bathroom, so if you’re not comfortable sharing a bath with strangers it might not work for you—fortunately they’re open 24/7, and he managed to soak at 4 am before anyone else.

The location, breakfast, and design were all solid, but the room felt cramped for three people with little space left even for luggage—better suited for two.

Everything we wanted was there, and the Kaisetsu dinner was surprisingly intriguing; the terrain between the hotel and the airport is a mix of uphill and downhill, which is tough with luggage, so we took a taxi from the airport.
