Pelican Cove Inn

The rooms were spotless and comfy, and the location was awesome—close to everything. The overall experience was solid. On the downside, I never got the room code or name before checking in; we had to call several numbers until we finally got the right details.

“Not a place for summer heat-no air flow being surrounded by other structures.”

We chose this place for our nephew’s wedding because it was close to the beach and easy to walk to the village. The heat and humidity were brutal; unless we left the front door open all the time, we couldn’t feel any coastal breeze. It was an unusual weekend, Aug 27‑30, and the temperature in the Pacific room stayed in the 80s during Thursday evening and overnight. We had to move to another place with AC for the remaining two nights. My husband has heart problems, so we had to leave. Better fans might have helped during the night.

“Good location”

Walking to several spots, including the ocean, was easy. No complaints.

“Not what we hoped.”

Good location but sad that the closest beach is so eroded right now from storms. I have never seen it so rocky and in such bad shape. The inn is close to town as well to enjoy stores and restaurants. Our room never got below 78 degrees with 3 fans going. It was so uncomfortable. We stayed in the 2nd floor room Carlsbad which had an old very tall bed that required a stool for me to even get in and I am 5'7. Odd. Everything needs a little spiff up. The stairs were worn and chipped. The towels frayed. The front screen ripped. The beach equipment old and ripped. Booking had this property rated a 4 star. It is definitely a two star. It has none of the amenities of a 4 star property. We were very disappointed

“Adequate property in a nice walkable location.”

The location was great. The Pelican Cove is in a quiet neighborhood that was walkable to the places we wanted to go to!. It's not thei Inn's fault when the summer weather heats up in Carlsbad, but 3 portable fans couldn't keep up to keep us cool. Plus the ceiling fan didn't work in our room, the Coronado. I got the feeling it was an ongoing issue that just never gets repaired. It wouldn't be too difficult or expensive to invest in the new portable A/C units. That would be a game changer! Also, everything is contactless at this property. We were lucky to run into the housekeeper one day to get an answer on the fan issue. Also, we could have used more towels
