The place was clean and well located for getting to my destination. I hadn’t read the early‑check‑in policy carefully and was stressed, but the staff handled it nicely, and they also kindly pointed me to a dinner spot. The front desk isn’t staffed continuously; although they helped with checkout, I had to leave the key in a lockbox and couldn’t arrange luggage delivery because no one was at reception. The window facing the outside only has a shoji‑type screen, so street lights spill in at night and the early dawn brightness wakes you up quickly; a blackout curtain would have been better.
“静かに、のんびりできた。凄くリフレッシュした。”
The room came with Wi‑Fi and an Alexa device as standard, though I turned the Alexa off because I’m not a fan. The fridge was so cold that the water turned almost slushy, which was refreshing when I needed to hydrate. The Japanese‑style room lacked a shower, making it feel more like a meeting or karaoke space on the second floor rather than a true guest room, but it was immaculately clean and had a charming small‑inn vibe.
It hit the price point I was looking for and the convenient location was a plus. However, during my stay a thunderstorm caused a power outage and I was left scrambling; it would have been helpful to have clear emergency‑exit instructions and guidance for blackout situations.
I loved being close to Akō Castle and having plenty of night‑time eateries to explore, and the breakfast in the morning was tasty as well. The only downside was that even on a gentle breeze the air‑conditioner was noisy, waking me up several times at night.
The 16‑year‑old’s single room was a smoking room—no sign, just the odor.
