Located less than 100 m from Brighton’s lively seafront and a five‑minute walk from the iconic Pier, Old Palace Guest House offers rooms with free Wi‑Fi, flat‑screen TVs and complimentary tea and coffee. Simple, clean décor complements private bathrooms with showers. Historic attractions such as the Royal Pavilion (0.3 mi) and Theatre Royal lie nearby.

The staff were absolutely lovely, very polite and helpful, and they even suggested breakfast spots. The tiny bathroom was clean and the bed comfortable. However, the stairs are narrow, making it hard to haul a suitcase up two floors. The room had a partial sea view but everything felt old and tired; a small metal table and faux‑leather chairs by the window were a nice touch yet cramped, and the two extra single beds added to the overcrowding. The decor was very tired and even unfinished around the bathroom door, while the main door was a nasty brown that could use a fresh coat of paint. The bathroom—shower, toilet, and sink—was tiny but functional, though there was no proper place for toiletries except a dodgy glass shelf. The TV offered only a few channels, and BBC1 wasn’t even listed. Wi‑fi was non‑functional; QR codes for “instant” connection didn’t work, so I had to rely on my data to read the news.

The lady who runs the place was extremely friendly and helpful. It was a last‑minute stay after a beach day, so I had little luggage; when I asked for a specific phone charger she went beyond my expectations and found one for me even though it wasn’t available at the facility at the time, always with a smile that I value in customer service. All was great, except the shower was a bit too small for my liking and the room was hot, but I still enjoyed my stay.

I loved the location, which I think was Kemptown. I discovered a poem connected to Brighton that begins “Hail guest, we ask not what thou art. If friend we greet thee hand and heart.” I felt that about this hotel and its surroundings.
