Just the location. The place is really old and I wouldn’t recommend it.

Located in the Altenessen district of Essen, the Astoria Easy Hotel Essen is a 5-minute walk from Karlsplatz Underground Station. This hotel features classically furnished rooms with free WiFi, private parking, and a sauna. Bright rooms come with wooden furniture, cable TV, and spacious private bathrooms with showers. A buffet breakfast is served in the bright breakfast room, and the historic city centre and Essen Exhibition Centre are a 15-minute drive away.

On both days there was dishware standing on many tables in the breakfast room, crumbly tables, and no one was seen before 8 am while I was having breakfast; the buffet was already empty of food on both days—eggs, scrambled eggs, yogurt… Serviettes had to be fetched from the back because nobody responded to calls and they were no longer available in front. I’ll leave the rest.

For a short trip the room was good, the bed comfortable, and I was welcomed nicely at check‑in and even received a room upgrade; it’s very close to the U‑Bahn (Karlsplatz), restaurants, and Aldi. The breakfast buffet wasn’t refilled regularly and the tables weren’t cleared; in the bathroom the shower cabin wasn’t cleaned properly.

The price was reasonable and the breakfast was good, but this was the worst 3‑star hotel I have ever stayed in. During my stay it was almost impossible to sleep because the room was hot, there was no fan in hot weather, and street noise was loud. The smell in the room wasn’t great either, though bearable. Communication with staff was poor. Even though I paid for a parking space when booking, nobody could confirm whether a space would actually be available when I arrived, but fortunately there was one.

Wo soll man da anfangen.
