The location was fine, but the bed left something to be desired.

The spot was close to the sites we wanted, and checking in was smooth; the host was very friendly, dropping by when I called for help. She mentioned the TV was broken and couldn't be fixed while we were there, but that wasn't a big issue for us. However, there was absolutely no airflow—my request for a larger fan was ignored, and the one that was there was small, dusty, and had a broken on/off knob. I asked if it was safe to keep the two street‑level windows open, and the host answered, “Probably.” That reassurance felt weak since we’re not locals. It was muggy and hot, and there was no kitchen sink; the coffee maker and tea kettle were pre‑filled with water, which made me wary of drinking from them because I didn’t know how long the water had sat. A bottled water in the fridge would have been helpful. There was nowhere to store luggage—no closet, no shelf, so we had to leave our suitcase on the couch or the kitchen table, which felt odd for someone of my age. A luggage valet would have solved that. There was no place to hang a coat or towel, and no napkins; if I made coffee or tea, I had to clean drips with my bath towel. There were no washcloths, hand towels, or dish towels. The only things that were plentiful were signs telling us not to smoke pot, not to take long showers, and to “think of the environment and the host’s wallet” (six signs in the bathroom alone). I wish the host had considered the practicalities when describing the place because I felt more like I was in a youth hostel than a romantic suite.

The room and bathroom were big, and it was on a car‑free canal stretch, which made Amsterdam feel quiet. Everything was there. It was an experience to stay in a basement once. The stay was fine for us, but it was pretty basic. If you’re after something chic, this isn’t it, but it’s a nice part of Amsterdam and close to the station.

The location was great, very convenient, right on the canal among charming historic houses. We left on the fourth day of a week‑long booking because we couldn’t get the toilet/shower fixed. After one shower the sump pump alarm went off, and they moved us to the upstairs unit. After it was supposedly fixed, we moved back in only for the alarm to sound again, and the shower backed up the next morning. They stopped replying, so we booked a nearby hotel. There was a very small fan that didn’t move much air. The coffee machine sort of worked but needed maintenance. There was plenty of shelving, but no hanging space for towels or clothes. Likely due to the sump pump problems, the smell wasn’t great, and the street‑level window couldn’t be left open unattended.
