My experience was extremely disappointing because the power went out for the entire night with no proper assistance. I checked in around 7 pm, walked around Jiufen Old Street, and returned sweaty from the heat, only for a regional blackout to hit at about 9 pm, plunging the room into darkness except for the emergency light. I called the owner right away and was told “Taiwan Power is doing emergency repairs.” I understand a blackout isn’t the hotel’s fault, but what was unacceptable was the lack of any follow‑up care. The outage knocked out electricity, water, and shower facilities, leaving me waiting in the dark. I eventually fell asleep but woke up repeatedly around 3–4 am to strange noises, feeling unsafe and unable to sleep properly. By the time I checked out at 8 am, power still hadn’t returned, meaning the room was without normal electricity from about 9 pm until departure. I asked the owner for a refund since I couldn’t use basic amenities or shower, and slept almost nothing, but the owner refused any refund. While I recognize the blackout was an external event, I believe the hotel should have proactively checked on guests, offered assistance, and discussed compensation when services were unavailable. The biggest disappointment was not just the outage but the complete lack of concern and help, and the outright denial of a refund. I hope future travelers read this and decide whether they can accept such a situation.
