The breakfast was good and the room was clean, but after 9 pm we struggled to re‑enter the room because the key didn’t work. The staff had already left, but we found her as she drove away from the public car park opposite; she also had trouble getting in. My phone was locked inside our room.

The room was lovely and clean with a comfortable bed, the staff were friendly, and they let me store my bike securely overnight.

Breakfast was plentiful and very good, and the location makes it easy to reach the beach, the castle, the river, and even Amble and beyond. The only downside is the lack of parking at the Inn, though you can find a spot nearby. Adding a continental option to breakfast—cereal, fruit, yoghurt, etc.—would be nice for those who don’t want hot, cooked food.

The location was ideal, right in the middle of the village with a village store across the road, a friendly bar, a nice beer garden, a lovely church, and an easy uphill walk to the castle. The only issue was that the hotel doesn’t offer car parking, but free spaces are easy to find opposite the building.
