Located in the beautiful Hampshire countryside within the pleasant village of Kingsclere, the pub had a lovely warm atmosphere with staff who were lovely and made our stay as comfortable as they could. We found it easy to park on both nights and with our room just a few feet away from the car park we didn’t have any stairs or steps to worry about. And the place was cheap as chips. The shower was easily accessible, powerful and nice and hot. Wi‑Fi was free, but not good connection and the TV was good, but the signal was. The room felt tired, smelled of dog and was in need of a spruce‑up. The bed was good and large, but was as hard as rock. The bathroom had a lingering smell, the toilet didn’t flush well (needing 2 or 3 flushes each time) and the cold water tap dripped constantly. The noise from the pub car park is loud and doesn’t go quiet until about 11 pm.

Good location for those going to see gigs etc at Wasing Estate on the mount. Nice quiet town and a bar to order drinks and food prior to or during your stay. The room wasn’t entirely clean.

The staff were nice, the room was clean, and the bed was comfortable. I appreciated being able to bring my dog. My room was above the kitchen and it was unbearably hot; even the carpet felt hot. My dog was panting all night. It was a heatwave, so I kept the window wide open and took a cold shower, but I had to use cold towels on the bed and pillow. Nothing could beat the heat from the kitchen and the heatwave. The room was upstairs, which would be great in winter but awful in summer—one of the worst nights I’ve had in a hotel. Nothing I did could cool me or the dog. The shower was hot and cold. A guy in the pub called me a proper cheapsgate for staying there. I expected basic, not unpleasant.
