“Disappointed experience and urgent maintenance required”
The cottage sits on the beautiful Redberry Farm, which offers plenty of daytime activities and eateries. It’s a must‑see for anyone visiting George, whether you stay at the cottage or not. The cottage welcomed us with strawberries and rusks, and the host kindly gave me cooking oil when I couldn’t find it at the farm shops. Unfortunately, aside from the farm itself, my stay at the cottage was not very enjoyable. The bathrooms were poorly maintained. The shower water would run for a few minutes and then stop, and the hot water would suddenly turn cold. The toilet seats were unusable; one was stained and the other chipped. The DStv didn’t work, and I noticed it right after check‑in. The owners didn’t seem eager to fix it immediately; the call to the DStv center should have been made on day one or before arrival. After a second request, they finally took action, but the DStv was never fixed during my stay because of a cable fault, and we had to accommodate service providers early in the morning, disrupting our schedule. On the day we left, there was no water in the cottage, while the rest of the farm had water, including the owners who stayed on the farm. We couldn’t shower before leaving, and using the toilet was very unpleasant. The broken DStv and lack of water aren’t entirely the host’s fault, but in a case like this I would have expected a sincere apology in person or at least some compensation, especially given the high price of the cottage. I didn’t receive either. I booked the cottage hoping for a pleasant birthday experience, but I left with a slightly bitter taste.
