I’d definitely return; a single night wasn’t enough for the peace and quiet this place offers.

The flat we stayed in was right next to another unit, so privacy was lacking and it felt like a complex. The unit itself was nice, fully equipped, and clean, and the staff were very friendly, but it would have been better as a freestanding unit. The road you drive on is also terrible.

The lodge sits in a stunning mountain setting with breathtaking views, and I loved sipping coffee at sunrise while reading. Unfortunately, several issues marred the stay. The 2 km gravel road from the main road was hard to drive in a small car, and this wasn’t disclosed online or at booking. Simone handled my booking and sent a man to welcome me, but he had no hospitality skills and just led me to the room without helping with my bags. Upon arrival, I saw a mud streak on the tiles and a strong musty odor; the man dismissed me and walked away. The TV was mounted too high above the couch, making it uncomfortable to watch; it should be at eye level. Both nights the hot water cut off mid‑shower, and when I asked about a timed geyser, the host denied it, yet the problem continued. Because the lodge is in Magoebaskloof near a river, temperatures drop sharply at night and in the morning, yet there was no heater, electric blanket, or warm blankets—only a small throw blanket. When I requested more, the man said “we are in summer” and gave a light blanket. For a lodge in this area, where evenings are cold even in summer, I strongly recommend adding proper heating, adequate blankets, or ideally a fireplace. Cleanliness, hosting skills, and attention to detail all need serious improvement to match the beauty of the location.

Everything was good: the outdoor kitchen had all the essentials for self‑catering, the bed was big and comfortable, and the natural surroundings were soothing. The only downside was that the knob on the gas stove was a bit hard to turn off, but that’s a minor safety issue.

The reception layout was clean and comfortable, and my wife and I are definitely coming back.
