The view from our room was superb, the staff were absolutely lovely, and the rooftop bar and plunge pool were highlights; I definitely recommend this hotel for a stay in Shanghai—beautiful.

The room was spacious, but this was my second stay at Banyan Tree after a work trip to Suzhou and it was a disappointment overall. The staff struggled with English, especially at check‑in, and simple questions were ignored. The hotel felt tired and a bit run down; fittings and finishes were worn, and in heavy rain there were leaks in the corridors and restaurant, so I had to deal with buckets and towels. The rooms were large and comfortable, but I rarely left my room. The many room types were confusing, and I ended up with a decent but average view from a North Bund hotel. A major let‑down was a large wedding that took over the guest lounge on level 2 and the Chinese restaurant, leaving limited dining options; I felt somewhat ignored because of that event. I don’t think such events should compromise other guests if there aren’t dedicated spaces. My first stay at the start of the week was nice, but this second stay made me wish I’d chosen another hotel—there are many great options in Shanghai. In short, a disappointing stay and a mistake I won’t repeat.

The spot right on the North Bund, next to the river, is spot on, and the rooftop bar view is awesome. The staff were super helpful and friendly, and the room was roomy, comfy, and came with plenty of perks—plus a free upgrade! The only hiccup was a clogged shower drain, but the team sorted it out fast after I mentioned it.

The view was great, and the room was spacious. However, it felt more like a four‑star than a five‑star room; the space seemed a bit worn. There were cracks in the shower marble floor and counter that cut my foot, and gaps in the wooden floor also caused foot injuries.
