The bed was great and the location was spot‑on, but the bathroom cleanliness left something to be desired – the tap water looked dirty and there was a skylight in the room without a curtain, so it was bright early and insects came in, making it hard to rest.

The location, the building and the ladies serving breakfast were all very nice. We had booked the hotel for three nights after visiting Machu Picchu and later added an extra night before the trek, only to be given a basement room. When we returned from Machu Picchu we were surprised to find the same room again, even though we had booked a different one online. We raised the issue with Mr Mario at reception, who replied rather rudely, saying we could cancel if we weren’t satisfied. It was around 9 pm, we were with our two daughters and exhausted after a long day, and we simply wanted a bit of understanding. We asked to speak with the owner the next morning; fortunately, we were told at breakfast that they would move us to another room. In the end the room itself mattered little—we were most upset by how the situation was handled and the reception’s attitude. Throughout our trip in Peru and Bolivia we’d encountered many hotels with attentive staff, so this experience was especially disappointing. The breakfast also fell short of the average we’d seen on our journey. It’s a shame, because a more courteous and helpful reception would have made the stay much better.
