Complimentary parking and those little cookies were a nice touch, and the staff were genuinely helpful. The mattresses, however, were a bit too firm and the pillows felt like bricks – I struggled to get a decent night's sleep.

The service was excellent and the historic building really impressed. My mum and I were looking for a touch of luxury in Braidwood, and this place delivered. The gardens were gorgeous, Gabriele welcomed us warmly, and we even got room service with fresh towels. Mornings on the balcony with tea and a view of the hills were a treat. The only downside was the lack of a lift – just a single flight of stairs, but manageable if you pack light.

Absolutely fantastic and special, the gardens are simply superb.

The spot is great, but the room had cobwebs, the bed was hard, the TV remote was dead, and the window rattled at night. We also didn't know there was no elevator for luggage, and the place felt far from the luxury it claimed to be.
