Barkers Island Inn Resort & Conference Center

The spot was great—just a short drive to a bunch of restaurants and to quieter beaches than the Duluth side. We came over from the twin cities for a night to rock‑hound and stargaze with the telescope. The pool and hot tub were a hit, and my husband enjoyed the sauna. The restaurant served tasty food, though service lagged when only one other table was there. The room itself was tidy, but the resort felt a bit worn down, like an old‑school 70s motel you’d stay in on a road trip. The restaurant staff were slow and didn’t check on us much, even with only one other table.

The pool area and rooms were top-notch, but what really stood out was how well everything was taken care of. The staff seemed to be on top of things, and the whole place had a great vibe.

“Pleasant stay, we did not use the restaurant. Not sure we got a great deal financially”

The location was perfect, with a lovely view of the water that we enjoyed despite the hotel not really emphasizing it. Unfortunately, the noise from the garbage truck in the morning and the staff parking outside our window was a bit of a nuisance. On the plus side, the book with important information was really helpful.

“We love staying there because of the location, close to Perkins, the Lake, & Duluth”

We've been going to this place since I was a kid, and it's always been a great experience - until this time. The problem was the family with young kids next door, who seemed to be in and out of their room all night, slamming the door and making our room shake. It would have been nice to have a kid-free zone, but I guess that's not what they're going for.
