“Hebben een heel prettig verblijf gehad.”
The room was tidy and parking was convenient. However, the room was warm and we couldn't quite adjust the temperature as we wanted.

Hotel-Gasthof Adler in Lindau's Oberreitnau district offers free Wi-Fi, parking, and a beer garden. Located 5 km from Lake Constance and Lindau Island, it features renovated rooms with light wooden furniture, flat-screen TVs, and private bathrooms with free toiletries. A country-style restaurant serves a large breakfast buffet and Bavarian cuisine, with half-board rates including a 3-course dinner.

The hotel was quiet yet quick to get to in Lindau, and the guest card gave free public transport use. A bus stop sits right outside the hotel. The breakfast was excellent, with everything refilled promptly. The service was attentive and the restaurant offered a wide range of dishes, which we enjoyed very well—quality, freshness and performance all matched. There was nothing to complain about.

The hotel looks beautiful from the outside. Oberreitnau, where it sits, is quite nice, even though it’s a bit off the beaten path—there’s a bakery if you want to skip breakfast and good cycle paths leading to central Lindau and the lake. The single room I stayed in was very hot and cramped. Its only window faced a terrace used to access two other rooms, so privacy was lacking and there was no view. That room should cost half the price, not €85! The hotel is next to train tracks, so there’s some noise from passing trains. The furniture and bathroom were rather outdated. There didn’t seem to be a dedicated room for storing bicycles overnight. I also find it misleading that the hotel is listed as located in Lindau when it’s actually in Oberreitnau, a village 10 km from Lindau Insel.

We have to start by saying the hotel, staff, etc. are wonderful—very friendly, very helpful, breakfast great. What made the stay less pleasant was that we were not housed in the main building, the lovely timber‑framed house, but in a basement apartment in a side building mainly used as staff quarters. During our stay, the accommodation was hard to find at night and, worse, poorly air‑conditioned (the “automatic climate control” didn’t cool at all, instead a fan was in the room). Ventilation was very limited, the sofa was listed as a French double bed, etc. We had a very difficult and anything but restful night. The hefty overnight price would have been appropriate for the main house, not for the basement apartment. A thorough discussion with management the next day did lead to a promise to address signage and description issues, but otherwise, apart from a bottle of the house brand wine, there was no offer to adjust the room price to match the shortcomings. Moreover, despite a promise from Booking, no response came within six weeks, let alone the promised 24 hours, so we can only give an honest rating of our experience. Main house, staff, breakfast a flawless 10/10; our stay in the basement apartment sadly only an honest 6/10. Overall, very disappointing.
