Sala Done Khone Hotel

The family running the place was incredibly kind and attentive. We stayed in a floating studio, which was amazing from the New Year’s Eve celebration to the sunrise. There were two pools, a great restaurant, and a hearty breakfast. The manager arranged our transport from the hotel to Pakse, and also booked a two‑hour sunset boat trip departing from the hotel, plus bike rentals to explore Done Khone and Don Det. I highly recommend this hotel—go there with your eyes closed.

“Amazing room, great food, nice family”

The river room might look a little rusty from the outside, but inside it’s fantastic. The double bed is very comfortable, the tiny extra‑bed nook is cute, the view is stunning, and the terrace has chairs, a hammock, and the Mekong right in front. The family and the dogs are very friendly, and the food is tasty and inexpensive. The breakfast selection is amazing. Even after biking and scootering around the islands, we couldn’t find a better restaurant, so we ate here every day. The pool behind the bungalows is outdated, but we were offered a larger one across the street. Honestly, we didn’t need a pool at all. The little carpets on the floor are dangerously slippery on the wooden floor, so we put them aside.

“Bonne adresse à Don Khone avec une belle piscine”

We stayed in the French Heritage house, which was comfortable and well equipped. The owner is friendly and very accommodating. The staff are lovely and considerate. The large pool in the middle of the tropical garden is very pleasant, especially during the rainy season when river swims are impossible.

The staff were very friendly, the food—including breakfast—was great, the location was amazing, and they helped us with everything from bus tickets to bikes; we especially enjoyed the floating bungalows and the view from the veranda overlooking the fast‑flowing Mekong, though the place felt rustic and a little tired but still clean and comfortable—exactly what you’d expect in Don Khon, not a luxury spot but perfect for the area; don’t miss the amazing Li Phi Somphamit waterfalls, which are incredible, but make sure you go out on the hanging bridges.

“All in all, a great 4 days with wonderful staff. We will be back.”

The property was great with wonderful service; we stayed in the French house and the room was very comfortable, although the Wi‑Fi didn’t reach the bedroom; the shower in the Ban Lao room (our initial room) was just a trickle and cold.
