The Hamlet at Samlesbury Hall

The grounds were lovely and the staff were incredibly friendly; I couldn’t find anything to criticize. The playground was amazing and kept my six‑year‑old entertained for ages. We also toured the Hall, which was beautiful, though the kids were a bit frightened by the haunted room. The restaurant was very accommodating and provided a pleasant conclusion to our long weekend. I met the owner, who was attending a wedding, and even during her personal time she stopped by to chat and was very kind to my little boy, who had a telescope to look at the stars. I’ll definitely come back.

The cabin was basic yet lovely, clean and comfortable, and the lack of a TV didn’t bother us, though it might for others since it wasn’t advertised. The on‑site staff were friendly and helpful. I’d return if I were in the area, but the site layout was confusing at first with no clear signs to reception.

“Fantastic little get away”

The property turned out to be a fantastic cosy getaway for me and my little family. The only downside was that after a couple of days the huts could use a brush and shovel; the kids’ snack crumbs piled up, which was a bit annoying.

The location was lovely and the staff at check‑in were friendly. We booked the 2‑shepherds hut for a group stay, but one of them had no heating or hot water. The maintenance man helped and offered an alternative hut, but it was after 10 pm, not ideal with young children. Check‑in is between 4–5 pm without extra payment, which feels a bit restrictive, and some crockery/cutlery would have been useful.

The huts and grounds are beautiful. Before booking, know that if a wedding is scheduled, Hamlet guests are secondary to wedding guests. They tried to claim the playground was closed until I complained, and the grounds were also closed, which wasn’t disclosed beforehand. Bring your own firewood, as it’s pricey if bought there.
