Haruru Falls Retreat, in Paihia, offers spectacular views of Haruru Falls on the Waitangi River. This family-friendly resort features a children's playground, lush green lawns, palm trees, and outdoor tables. Guests access a boat ramp, kayak rentals, and walking trails. Rooms have refrigerators, coffee/tea facilities, and private bathrooms. The retreat is close to Waitangi Treaty Grounds and Paihia town centre.

The staff were very friendly, the beds comfortable, and the sheets clean. Everything was spotless, and the heating worked wonderfully on the cold night we stayed; the electric blankets were brilliant. Because of an earlier arrival that I had emailed about a few days beforehand, the Executive suite was not quite ready, so we were moved to an older room with an adjoining room plus kitchen. It was nice, but we were looking forward to the balcony overlooking the complex. The curtains/drapes were quite sheer, so the outside lighting shone into our room. One window couldn’t quite close properly as the joinery was bent; minor, as there was a latch that did close.

Only the location was good. The toilet was not clean, the bathroom was unpleasant, the room was not clean, and there were cobwebs around. Not good at all with the value of the money.

The location was nice, but the camp bathrooms and kitchen facilities were lacking. I’m sure I booked a unit with an ensuite and kitchen. The cabin was smelly, and people next door were smoking cannabis. The description and wording need changing on how to access the key. The lock box is NOT on the handrail but on the side of the office wall. The room is a cabin, NOT a motel. Please check the English!
