“A lovely spot at a good price”

Desiree was a lovely host, and the place itself: simple but comfortable rooms, each with a little terrace, plus a pleasant courtyard and a small breakfast room downstairs. You can park on the street if you’re lucky, otherwise there’s a large public car park for the stadium three minutes down the hill. The neighbourhood feels a bit run down, but a taxi will take you into Ortigia for a stroll. A small pizzeria 200 m away on the main road offers outdoor seating and great value.

My husband and I stayed for just one night but we really liked it; Desirè, who runs the B&B, is very friendly and helpful; the room was clean and spacious; the location is very convenient, just a 15‑minute walk from Ortigia and the archaeological park.

The first day I got a raw croissant, the second a packaged brioche; I wasn’t impressed by the misleading reviews at all. The kitchen table is a flat iron, the windows are inadequate, and there’s no wardrobe in the room.
