“A bit dated and damp - but lets you see Sintra before the crowds.”
We stayed in an attached 'apartment' that was large, clean, and generally good, letting us spread out for a few days. The beds were comfortable and the room was cleaned daily, though we were never sure if the towels were changed. It was a 10‑minute walk to the town centre, a lovely place to wander, though tourists flood in during summer days regardless of the weather. The shower in our room was basic and tended to flood the bathroom because of the cubicle design; the room smelled damp (it rained a lot while we were there) and was dark with few windows, better suited to hot, dry weather than wet, cool weather. Uber drivers would rev their engines outside and wait for customers from about 9 pm, so their fumes sometimes drifted into the room; we had to leave several times to ask them to move or be quiet. The facilities were a bit basic: the sink was cracked, the tap loose, no coffee in the room—just a kettle that had to be placed on the floor to reach a power socket; we had a microwave, but when I asked reception for a plate to heat food, they said I wasn’t allowed one because they’re only there in the afternoon and early evening. The breakfast room was small with limited tables and the breakfast was adequate (nothing hot, except tea/coffee in flasks) rather than amazing. We also encountered vicious, large stray dogs around the hotel after dark.
