Scarborough is divided by a rocky promontory into two distinct bays. South Bay holds the amusements, working harbour, and sandy crowds. North Bay offers a quieter beach bordered by parks and Victorian chalets. You move between them along Marine Drive or up steep cliff paths.

Scarborough eats seafood landed directly at the harbour. Fish and chip shops line Sandside, where lunchtime queues form along the quay. Traditional kippers in the area come from nearby Whitby, while harbour stalls sell dressed crab directly to takeaway buyers.
