Ebony Beach

We enjoyed a fabulous stay at Ebony Beach, which sits right on the beach; unit one is on the water edge with beautiful sea views, while unit two, where we stayed for three nights, is a bit higher up, overlooking a well‑kept tropical garden and a private pool, though the trees block the sea view; the 4‑bedroom house is spacious and in a nice Colonial style, making it a prime spot for Vilanculos. However, it is self‑catering and some utensils and equipment are missing—braai bak, braai tongs, toaster, dish‑up spoons, and proper steak knives—so you need to bring everything, including the basics; fortunately there’s a brand new SPAR supermarket in Vilanculos where you can get everything, but no wood or charcoal is supplied, so bring enough mosquito repellent; the showers need more pressure and are not functional at all, and we didn’t report this.

The staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly, especially Andrisa who made sure we were comfortable and our stay was relaxing and enjoyable. The house itself is amazing, with a layout that gives every guest privacy and a lovely open‑plan living space. The location to the beach is superb, and we had our own private pool for added privacy. One small improvement would be a light at the braai area for evening use.

James was fantastic and accommodating. The living area benefited from natural airflow from the wind. The bedrooms were dark and had very little natural airflow, and there was no internet.

The property is quite far from restaurants and other amenities, so you’ll need a hired car. The management couple went above and beyond, being very kind and hospitable—nothing to fault them for.
