The building has character, and the room was nicely decorated, clean, and well maintained. Our room had a small kitchen with a microwave, sink, kettle, and refrigerator, which was a big plus because town eateries open late on weekdays. The room was quite large and had a nice balcony overlooking the river. However, our room, the Feather Suite, was in the front of the hotel and exposed to the road and sidewalk. Road noise was noticeable: although traffic is light, logging and road‑construction trucks come by very, very early in the morning.

“This is where you want to stay”

Everything about this property is wonderful: the service feels personalized, the rooms look like they were designed by an interior decorator, and the river view right outside the room is nice; falling asleep and waking up to the rushing river sounds is therapeutic. The location couldn’t be better—everything is just a few steps away. I loved everything about this place.

“A tranquil getaway along the river was just what we needed.”

The view and sounds of the river from the Feather Suite were phenomenal. The bed was comfortable and the little kitchenette was perfect for our needs

Very enjoyable getaway location. Off-season Downieville is quiet and lovely. Sonja and Michael were terrific hosts
