The place is amazing, completely secluded with a spectacular setting. The apartment was spotless, lovely, and well equipped. The host was friendly and attentive, and the breakfast was excellent. I liked everything.

We discovered this beautiful spot while looking for lodging near Handa Island. The property delivered everything described and more. It’s a short walk or drive from the Handa Island ferry and a lovely seafood restaurant is nearby. The cottage is modern, beautifully furnished, in a stunning location, and the hosts made us feel truly welcome. It ranks among our favorite travel experiences.

The room window offered a nice view. “Overnight” oats were already in the fridge when we arrived in the afternoon, along with butter and some bread in the drawer. The furniture and equipment were IKEA. Compared to all other places I’ve stayed at—usually 9 or 10, and for which I give detailed and very positive reviews (including this holiday and others, and I book almost all accommodations on this platform)—this was an astonishingly and appallingly negative experience. We left after the first night (we had originally booked three). The bathroom faucet produced brownish water; we were supposed to use it for tea, and no other water was provided. I understand if the toilet is flushed with “natural” water, but I would at least like to brush my teeth with clear water. Shopping facilities are far away, making this a remote place. The owner told us early on that, although this was a self‑catering facility, cooking was not allowed because (quote) her insurance didn’t allow it. So we brought cold food. Still, the owner seemed not only surprised that we intended to stay mostly at the place; she reproached me that it was (quote) “not normal” for guests to do that. She considered her place a Bed and Breakfast, although it was not advertised as such, and insisted she expected her guests to spend time away from the place. Her big dog was allowed to roam free on the premises, and she also has another dog. Since the owner occupied the room next to ours with the same entrance to the building and the same “terrace” (pebble‑covered ground with a great view but no furniture), and she firmly stated the terrace was not exclusive for our use, that meant I could have met her dogs as soon as I left our apartment. A small concession was reached for the first night: she would keep the dogs to herself. I felt deeply humiliated that she pathologized my fear of dogs to the extent that she demanded I state my (quote) “condition” prior to booking. I can only say: considerate dog owners among the many hosts I’ve had never made such a fuss and never tried to force me to set times when I would be outside and when not.

It’s really remote, and you have to love that.
