“Overly priced! Okay, but not great”
If you’re heading north to see the great migration, the location is incredible—zebras and gnus are constantly close to the camp, and it’s only an hour from the Mara River crossing spots, which is close considering the Serengeti’s vastness. The room is really comfortable with a very good bed, and the view is stunning. The staff in general was okay, but the manager was not. Although we received a warm reception on the first day, on the last day we literally got robbed by the manager. We left early in the morning to go to Central Serengeti and ordered a lunch box from them; they charged $70 for two people, when apparently they should have charged half the price ($35), according to our tour guide who had ordered the same lunch box for other clients before. But that’s not even the problem—the food was not good enough to be charged at $35, but what alternatives do you have, right? Unless you’re going to another hotel during lunch, you have no real options. It also seems they did that to compensate for the lack of tips we gave them, because I remember the manager’s sarcastic smile when he informed the price. Either way, when you have a full‑board package in the middle of a savannah, the food is what it is, but when you have to pay a very expensive price for the crappy food they offered, it sucks as hell! Also, the lodge’s price was overly high in my opinion, because when you compare it to other options with a cheaper price, the difference might be a little more comfort in the lodge, but otherwise it’s very similar for a higher price. I thought their price difference was due to hot showers managed during the night as well, but unfortunately that’s not true, so if you want to take a shower early in the morning before going to the safari, you have to be prepared to have a cold shower instead.
