“Nice bedroom & good views but musty bathroom in Ollantaytambo”
The Refugio sits near the main square and key sights, though Ollantaytambo itself is small; the spot is quiet except for the pleasant trickle of water in the front irrigation channel. Staff were friendly and helpful, though English was limited. The bedroom was spacious, clean, and offered a fantastic mountain view, and Wi‑Fi was generally reliable. Hot water was only lukewarm, so an electric heater was attached to the showerhead. Breakfast was typical but a bit larger than usual, and there are great views across the river. The bathroom was cramped, with the toilet tucked just inside the door, and the water wasn’t hot enough. It also had a strong, unpleasant musty odor that really spoiled the experience. Major roadworks are ongoing on the street where the Refugio is located; the street is completely excavated, so you have to carry your luggage instead of rolling it, and the works will likely continue for months. On the plus side, there’s no noisy traffic to worry about, and there’s no TV in the room if that matters to you.
