The setting is rural and quiet, a short drive to Windermere, but walking from the car park to reception hit a huge overflowing bin store that smelled awful; the bins hadn’t been emptied in ages. Reception itself always smelled like fish, regardless of the hour. We were assigned an “outside” room that opened onto a wet step, and I’m not sure why since the hotel has indoor rooms that seemed empty. The room had only a tiny window in the shower and none in the main area. I wore brand-new slippers for 1.5 days, walking from bed to bathroom repeatedly, and they became disgusting—see the photo I attached. We had to pick our breakfast before 9 pm the night before. The bar area had no seating, and a glass of wine with a Diet Pepsi cost £14. We left at 7 am on the second morning, but no one was around to talk to. We messaged and after more than 36 hrs we still haven’t heard back. In my view, the ratings of this place rely heavily on the food experience, not the accommodation.
