The room was spacious and comfortable, and with restaurants and a convenience store right across the street it was easy to walk everywhere—probably the most convenient spot on Kume Island. The price felt steep for Kume Island, and because there’s a sugarcane field behind the building, the white corridors, stairs and entrance were swarmed day and night by large cockroaches (often called aphids), which even the cleaning staff seemed shocked by; the sheer number was exhausting and I wish they’d install electric pest repellents because it felt like the bugs could crawl from the door straight into the room.
