Its proximity to the train station, a nearby supermarket, and the free shuttle to Snow Monkey Park were convenient, and signing up for the private onsen was hassle‑free via a list. However, the accommodation feels a bit dated; the old carpets gave the room a musty smell, which my friend with a dust‑allergy couldn’t enjoy, so I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone with allergies or a sensitive nose.

The female spa was lovely. The onsen were very hot—hotter than many foreigners would expect, though that might be adjustable. The family onsen was tiny, so it wasn’t realistic for larger people. The best part of staying at a more traditional Japanese hotel was discovering how different things could be. That’s the challenge: low doorways, separate compartments for sink, toilet, and shower. If you appreciate those differences, the hospitality will win you over every time. Maybe offer different breakfast options on different days.

The older gentleman who works at the hotel took a genuine interest in our trip and took great care of us. He drove us to the Snow Monkey Park and gave us tips for our activities. There was a self‑playing piano at breakfast. The room had a slight odor, but otherwise everything was fine.
