Great location. Scenic views. The motel itself was fine, although in need of modernisation. Although advised to expect a wait it took 1 hour 45 minutes after ordering our dinner at the restaurant to be served. Not acceptable. Noisy early morning departures, including excessive vehicle noise by other guests (road workers) disturbed an otherwise peaceful night. Perhaps larger trucks should be parked away from the rooms

It was a pleasant stay with good food, a beautiful restaurant, and lovely staff. However it looked nicer online when booking, there was nothing to do at Hicks Bay so I was a bit bored, and the food was pricey.

I stayed at a basic 3‑star lodge on the edge of New Zealand’s East Cape; the restaurant was closed, but the staff sent a burger hand‑delivered to my room for dinner, which was great service.
