“Attenti alle scale...”
I didn’t enjoy anything about this place. The building was in shambles, the stairs to the room were dangerously steep, and the bathroom was outside the room. The kitchen had ruined, unsanitary pots, mismatched and spotted towels, no hot water unless you manually crank a water heater, which nobody told you about. The only bright spot was a nice, helpful girl I spoke with. The location reeks of sewage, Augusta is one of the least maintained cities I’ve visited, and I wasted 68 euros.
“Grandi aspettative che si sono rivelate un disastro”
You can eat well at Faro, and there’s a nice spot nearby for a swim—probably the only clean sea I found in all of Augusta. The lady running the B&B was very friendly and gave useful tips on places to visit. Most of the beaches I checked out were polluted, the second‑floor room was hard to reach because of steep, narrow stairs, and although the view from the bathroom was good, it was ruined by sewage‑like air. Ants were everywhere in all the rooms.
The hostess was friendly, greeted me at the building, handed me fresh oranges and water, and showed me the room. The kitchen area is somewhat pleasant on a sunny day, but overall my experience was terrible. The bed was in an unacceptable state—visibly dirty, infested with bedbugs, a dead bug on the pillowcase, mold spots, and body hairs. The room had a strong moldy smell, the air quality was so bad my nose got blocked, and in the morning I woke with itchy red bite marks. Because of the hygiene problems and discomfort, I had to leave right after waking up to get some fresh air. This isn’t a personal attack on the hostess, who was very friendly, but the room needs full sanitization and a proper mold inspection before it can host guests again.
“Сицилийские каникулы.”
The location is great, especially for car travelers. There’s free city parking right outside the house and we never had trouble finding a spot during our stay. The host is outstanding, sending us recommendations almost daily for sights, events, beaches, and island activities. She really cares about her job and works fast to resolve any issues; when a water pressure problem appeared late at night, staff arrived within half an hour and fixed it. The AC works well even in the hot Sicilian summer. The house has plenty of cookware and everything you need for a stay. The fish restaurant opposite the house serves the freshest seafood, displayed in aquariums or on an ice display, and the fish you order is cooked right before you. It was one of the best culinary experiences of the trip. Keep in mind that this place is better for island trips than for a full‑day beach day; there’s no beach within walking distance, so you need a car or public transport to reach the sea. For us, traveling by car, that wasn’t a problem. The only downside is that under heavy simultaneous load on the electrical system, the breaker can trip—running two AC units and an oven at once can cause a problem. The electric kettle is broken; you have to hold the power button to keep it on. The house has an induction stove, but the cookware provided isn’t induction‑compatible, so a metal transfer plate is used, which slows heating and negates the main benefit of induction.
“Bella esperienza”
Having the sea right outside the house, you can hear and smell it when you open the windows, which is priceless. The house is fully equipped, so you don’t need to bring anything. The free parking under the house is very convenient. Unfortunately, we were unlucky and found the sea covered in algae, though that’s not anyone’s fault. I’ve read many negative reviews about the internal stairs, which are indeed a bit dangerous, but a little caution is enough.
