“A relaxing stay in a beautiful location.”

The location was amazing, with a wonderful view from our room, and the grounds were beautiful to stroll around. Breakfast was excellent and dinner at the restaurant was very good. The plunge pool with hydrotherapy massage was nice, but in September it felt a little cold for long sitting; a hot tub would be better in autumn/winter. The room was definitely expensive for its size, and it was oddly divided (small bedroom, large bathroom). There could have been more hooks or surfaces for storage, and the bathroom sink tap had no temperature control—unclear if that was intentional. The automatic tap was inconvenient, sometimes giving too much or too little water. While none of these were serious problems and we enjoyed our stay, the Masseria didn’t quite match other Relais & Châteaux hotels we’ve stayed at in other countries at a similar price.

“Paid a lot of money for 2 nights. Did not live up to expectations, or 5 star.”

The outdoor pools and grounds were relaxing. There was no welcome drink upon arrival, and customer service was poor. The private pool in our suite didn’t have the advertised view; it overlooked a wall and shrubs. Ants were in the room, and the beds were quite hard. We received one small bottle of water each day in the room, which seemed low for a £1800 rate; they charged for each small bottle. The chef’s breakfast was poor—poached toast and eggs consisted of just one egg, and the bread didn’t even look like a slice.

The site, the buildings (an old monastery) perfectly renovated, the gardens and infinity pools with sea view and Polignano, and the lovely, very professional teams with a lot of natural charm.
