The basement apartment was simple but tidy, and its central location was a plus; the city centre and the market square were just a few minutes' walk away. We were greeted warmly and helped secure a free parking spot nearby. Unfortunately the living area had no window to the outside, only the bathroom had daylight, but that window was shaded by an inward‑facing secondary window. Initially the apartment smelled strongly of smoke from the chimney shaft; we temporarily covered the shaft and the smell vanished completely.
