The Golden Tulip Leiden Centre is a 4-star hotel situated directly opposite Leiden railway station, within a 5-minute walk of the historic city centre. Each modern room features a flat-screen TV, air conditioning, private bathroom with complimentary soap and shampoo, minibar, and tea/coffee maker.

I was pleased with the location right near the city centre and the parking garage was handy, though a bit pricey. The room felt darker than expected because the window was small and there was no ceiling light, and one of the towels upon arrival was visibly dirty, giving a bad first impression. Road closures around the hotel were happening on arrival, and I wish I had been notified beforehand.

The refurbished bedrooms look much more modern and have spacious en‑suite facilities. A walk‑in shower and a heated bathroom mirror make mornings easier. Air conditioning is always welcome, especially on those days when the sun is more than a token appearance. The bed was too soft for my liking, but I know this is more a question of personal taste.

I liked the nice room and the early check‑in we were allowed. Parking for the whole stay cost €25, which is cheap. The hotel is close to the city yet we didn’t hear any noise. The curtains let in a lot of light, which was a minor issue.

Breakfast was excellent with a wide variety, everything fresh and tidy. The location is great, within walking distance of the lovely centre in Leiden. It’s a shame you have to pay extra for the parking garage.

The staff were friendly and the hotel was very accessible from the city centre. Nothing else to add.
