“Horrid. Checked out early.”

The property sits in a great spot. The room was roomy enough, and even though it faced an alleyway you could catch a glimpse of the canal, which was beautiful. The smell, however, was awful – mould and bacteria in the shower made the room feel dirty. Because the building is old we expected it to be warm, but it was hot, making the odor even worse. We stayed two nights and kept a fan running to circulate air, yet the smell remained unbearable. When we checked out a day early, the male receptionist interrogated us; after we explained that we were struggling with the heat and smell, he looked at my partner as if we were being dramatic. The hotel and that staff member were awful. Never again.

“A fuire !”

Nothing! We fled the hotel after just one night even though we had paid for four days. Everything was terrible – not even a table to put our keys or phones, no wardrobe to store our clothes. The bedding was of very poor quality and impossible to sleep on. The shower was so small that I, who am quite sturdy, struggled to fit in. The toilet was equally tiny, leaving me barely able to sit without leaving the door open. An infernal noise filled the night as every door in every room had to “clap” shut. The stairs were very narrow and steep, making it incredibly difficult for my disabled father. None of this was mentioned in their listing, which I find intolerable. No information was given about parking; we paid €90 per day, which is quite expensive for what was offered.

The only good thing about this place is its location. The price doesn’t match what’s offered. The stairs are extremely steep, there are no elevators, and carrying heavy luggage is difficult for many people. It probably deserves only one star.

“Gute Lage dafür altes Haus und zeitweise laut”

The hotel’s location was pretty good; everything was reachable on foot if you’re somewhat fit. The room was adequately sized and the hotel offered free luggage storage after checkout. The local restaurants below were very noisy until the night, especially on weekends. Like most buildings in downtown Amsterdam, it’s old, with narrow stairs and no elevator. The view from the window looks out onto a tight alley with local shops.

The hotel’s location is great. The bathroom and room were renovated, and the bed was comfortably large – ideal for a short stay. The lobby had a free coffee machine with capsules and water. The window didn’t close completely, a drip from the drainage was audible, and it faced the gutter of a neighboring building. The room had little space. The steps from the entrance to the lobby are quite shallow and steep, which I guess is part of the charm of old Amsterdam buildings.
