The outdoor onsen tucked into the mountains was beautiful, the kaiseki ryori highlighted local ingredients, and the staff were warm, knowledgeable, and welcoming. It was a perfect way to finish the day after walking from Magome‑juku to Tsumago‑juku.

Everything! The hotel is stunning, the location is perfect, and the staff go above and beyond to give guests the best experience. We didn’t have anything to change.

“Nice place, good value for money , great service, but skip private onsen”

The public onsen, the room, and the staff’s hospitality were great. The private onsen fell short of expectations; we had to hike outside the building to reach it, it was an old wooden bath, and we had to undress ourselves.

The overall atmosphere made us feel very comfortable. The staff were very friendly, the onsen was relaxing, there weren’t many pools but that was fine. The outdoor onsen was beautifully situated in nature. The food was a feast. An amazing experience. No negatives.

The onsen was great, but the staff were not at all accommodating with special food requests. We asked for more plain rice because we were having trouble with some of the traditional foods and they actually told us they didn’t have any plain rice…no way they didn’t have plain rice. They didn’t want to give us plain rice. When asked if we could have another serving of something we really enjoyed they were absolutely not giving us anything extra, not even for a fee. The server was very odd and made the dining experience uncomfortable. They WERE very accommodating with extra futon beds which was really great.
