The hotel was closed for refurbishment and we weren't told.

Honestly it's mostly the hotel's fault. They were closed yet still taking bookings. I booked months ahead, but two weeks before my flight I saw Google Maps reviews saying it was shut down for construction. Some guests had to scramble for another hotel that day; I had two weeks notice. I hope Booking does the right thing and refunds everyone.
