The afternoons were a culinary adventure, with the host sharing the place’s history, and the vibe among guests—some even invited others to join their dinner parties—made the whole stay feel like the regulars were steering the good atmosphere. Even though we were only there for a single day, we left with a deep gratitude for EVERYTHING. A thousand thanks. The staff were always friendly and present.

“Stay a few days and get out your paints!”

Two things stood out: the dinner and wine pairing – you shouldn’t miss it – and they managed to fit us in even after I messed up my dates. I’m a museum fan, so we came back to Norway because we couldn’t see Kistefos in 2022, and staying in a guest house full of paintings was a real treat. I’ve never painted or sketched, but I’d love to try again. The boutique on site has all the basics, and the scenery is perfect for inspiration. The stairs to the second floor are tough for me with two replacement knees, but they carried our bags up and the room itself was lovely – large and airy. We drove from Keistiansand; it’s a long drive with hairpin turns in some spots, yet the scenery is gorgeous.
