The space was roomy, nicely decorated, the kitchen had everything needed, the location was great, staff were friendly, and the main building was impressively designed. We complained about cleanliness: the first floor was dusty, a mirror was dirty, side tables in the bedroom had rubbish under the bed (visible when we climbed the stairs) – not a good welcome. A hat stand fell on my six‑year‑old because it was wobbly. An old dusty cobweb was on the bathroom door. The fridge was still dirty. Bathroom grout needed redone; black spots were off‑putting. There was no bench outside for sun‑seating. The lamb in the main restaurant was poor – very chewy – I couldn’t eat it. I’m a foodie and don’t mind paying for food, but it really wasn’t great. I appreciated the apology and the fact they returned to clean and fix issues, but our view of the place remains tainted.

The staff were friendly, the decor was nice, and breakfast was good, but the afternoon tea fell short and the tagliatelle in the club house was not great.

Everything from the staff to the rooms was top‑class and went beyond what we expected, except that the room lacked a vanity mirror near an electrical outlet for blowing or curling hair.

The staff were welcoming and helpful and the views from the public room were magnificent, and the Scottish breakfast was good, but the premium price I paid did not match the quality of the room I was given; I travel the world and for this price I expected a view (there was none) and a room large enough to swing a cat in, and finding plugs was a challenge and some aspects required maintenance (quickly addressed when reported); I wasn’t the only guest who was surprised at the poor room size and location.
