Nice boutique hotel a bit off‑center, with very helpful staff and lovely décor. The hotel sits on a railway line, but we didn’t hear any trains.

“Beautiful place just way too expensive”

This hostel looks amazing, and the pool and breakfast are fantastic. The rooms were spotless and the staff were incredibly friendly. I was the only one in the dorm, so I didn’t get to join the surf groups, and the place isn’t very social. The lighting is a problem – the light bulb shines through the milky glass door at night and also from the bathroom in the morning. There are no curtains, so when a girl checked in at 3 am and stayed until 5 am I couldn’t sleep because the light was too bright. It’s a bit far from the main atrip, so walking home at night isn’t ideal, and the rocks in front of the hostel mean you can’t swim there. For all that I think the price of 37 for a night is too high; I ended up staying somewhere for 9 and slept so much better.

“Not good”

The Sri Lankan staff in the morning were very friendly and the food was decent, though it could be improved. The lady who checked us in wasn’t very friendly, the AC stopped working and she said it was normal and didn’t need fixing. Breakfast hours made no sense and only some residents were accommodated. I think the owners’ nationality should be disclosed for political and personal reasons.

The pool area is nice and relaxing, though it would be better if it were cleaned a bit more often. The surfboard rental selection is good and reasonably priced, and free coffee, tea, and water are available all day, which is great for relaxing by the pool. Breakfast is tasty, and the drinks are refreshing; lunch and dinner options are reasonably priced. The lodge has a deal with local tuktuk drivers who usually wait in front of the lodge and take you around the area for fixed rates; they might be a bit pricey, but it’s a good option if you’re surfing because the driver waits there or picks you up at an arranged time and also transports the boards. The surf courses offered at the lodge are a bit too pricey compared to the rates at the beaches, but I assume the quality of the courses (including video coaching) is higher. The tuktuk drivers tend to get unfriendly when you book your own transportation via Uber, Pickme, etc., and not riding with them, which seems to be the case all over the south of Sri Lanka.

I had a wonderful stay at this hostel in Kabalana. The place was very clean, comfortable, and well maintained, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. During my stay, my flights were cancelled due to the war and I unexpectedly got stuck in Sri Lanka. The hostel was extremely understanding and kindly allowed me to extend my stay to 8 more days with a 20% discount, which I truly appreciated during a stressful time. Their warmth and support made a big difference. The hostel has a calm and relaxed atmosphere, perfect if you want to unwind and stay away from the crowds and busy city areas. It's a bit far from the city but I don't mind because I wanted to be away
