“Far from deluxe. Rude staff. Dirty pool. All about tips, tips, tips...”
Pros: Beautiful jungle setting, well‑presented communal areas, a small resort. Cons: We paid for a deluxe room, yet it felt basic; no TV; the pool was dirty, full of dead insects, leaves, and had an odd colour—clearly not cleaned for a long time. Locals were allowed to use the pool, even though they weren’t staying there; one day we found a local family playing loud music, leaving rubbish, occupying all tables, and after we complained they became tense and gave us dirty looks—pool use should be limited to paying guests, and security is poor. Staff were attentive because they rely on tips; they even suggested a tip amount on the bill. One receptionist, Elisbeth, seemed surly and we sensed she was speaking about us in Spanish to coworkers, laughing at us; we complained about her. The single restaurant became tiresome after a few days; the food was average and overpriced, lacking variety for a resort. The resort sits in the middle of nowhere; aside from the ruins, there’s nothing else nearby. We chose this hotel because it advertised proximity to the ruins—only partially true: the entrance is close, but the ticket booth is 2 km down the road, requiring a 15‑minute walk in the heat to buy tickets, then a shared van with a return ticket to the temple; thus it’s not worth staying here if you’re only visiting the temple. We stayed for a weekend and felt bored—the place felt soulless.
There were many dangerous insects in the rooms.

It sits inside a natural reserve, and getting to Palenque Archaeological site is super easy—just a walk away. The restaurant is nice, the cabins are perfect, and the staff are very friendly. I’d highly recommend it for birdwatchers and anyone who wants to stay close to the Palenque site.
