“Don't just book one night.”
I stayed for a solid month, and hearing the sea each night really helped calm my anxiety and heart rate, with a fresh ocean breeze and a nice terrace to sit on. The staff were friendly, and I was gifted a picture at the end, after which I’ve been messaged to see how my journey has been. I miss the Alpha monkey and have recommended it to a few friends planning to come to Sri Lanka. Tangalle is lovely; you can visit the rock temple and enjoy the city. Waking up to sunrise and the sound of waves from your bed feels like paradise until you experience it. It was incredibly hard to finally pack and leave. The price for a room with a private bathroom, strong water pressure, a huge swimming pool, beautiful gardens, a beach restaurant, and only a 30/40 minute walk to town down a beautiful coastal road… I don’t understand why more people don’t stay longer. If it were up to me, I wouldn’t have left. I couldn’t really afford the restaurant or food here; a pot of coffee cost 800 and that set me back daily, no freebies like coffee or water, water priced at 300 a bottle so I had to walk to the shop to save money. This is very much a personal problem—I’m incredibly poor! If you can afford it, it’s not a problem at all. The bed can get a little damp on rainy days; stick the fan on full while you’re out and about and it’s not too much of a problem. I changed my room to the one with a private pool—it was nice to have a pool overlooking the salt water pool, but it does get gross quickly so I didn’t make as much use of it as I’d liked to. Wifi isn’t available in your room, but the restaurant has good wifi and you can enjoy a pot of coffee and overlook the ocean while working.
