“We Should Have Slept In the Car”
The place was available during the World Cup, even though we weren’t heading to Houston for FIFA; it was a cancer surgery trip, and the nearest we could get to Houston was Baytown. This will definitely become a story I can tell my family. The “motel” isn’t actually affiliated with the brand, and the low‑slung chain of connected fallout shelters looked a lot like the Bates Motel, so it’s easy to imagine someone might have been harmed in the shower there. The location was mostly empty, and the two other guests were nice. If you’re planning to do some knife‑work in the shower, this is the place: we had to pay in cash and received a written receipt from one of those carbon‑copy receipt books. They did take my driver’s license, but they weren’t really looking at me. Seriously, if you’re planning something illegal, go to this place. The towels and sheets were dirty, the bathroom was filthy and had bugs, the TV was an 18‑inch model with no remote, and I’d rather stay at the Overlook Hotel for an entire winter than ever look at this motel’s sign again.
