The location was excellent for anyone seeking tranquility and nature, yet just 5 minutes from the Douro. The property is filled with rest spots integrated into the landscape, letting you hear the river’s flow and the birds that pass by, plus various fruit trees. It also offers access to the river for a swim if you wish. At night it’s a great spot for stargazing. The property itself is full of corners that tell its history, especially its mills, as the building itself is an old mill. It even has vintage posters from the Estado Novo era, real relics. The place is ready for guests with mild mobility issues, with grab bars in the shower and a ramp at the entrance on traditional Portuguese pavement. If you’re lucky enough to chat with the owners, you’ll find them extremely kind and friendly, true storytellers who know the rich history of the property and the Douro wine region. Inside, the accommodation preserves the charm of traditional Portuguese furniture, and the bed—very comfortable—fits perfectly into this setting for anyone looking for real rest and calm.

I was impressed by the good cleanliness and the chance to cool off in a stream in the garden, but the room we received was awful. It was basically a semi‑buried room with a structural moisture problem; even though it was very clean, the damp and mold smell was unbearable and after one night we fled. The owner, Marco, acts like a host without the professionalism or hospitality skills; he claims the odor is normal old house smell and does nothing to fix it. He speaks only Portuguese and clearly cares only about the money, not the guests. He has other rooms that aren’t semi‑buried and might be suitable, as other reviews suggest. In my view, even the semi‑buried common areas (like the makeshift kitchen) are inadequate. This is my first entirely negative review on Booking after years, and I believe that room should not be offered. Thanks to Booking for a partial refund, but Marco refused to contribute further.

The accommodation was beautiful and great! If you’re looking for something special, I recommend this mill and its hosts. Everything was perfect.
