We were all heading to a family funeral and the staff were very friendly and attentive, especially Sophia Adam at the bar and the breakfast crew from Helensburgh – thanks, we’ll stay at this hotel again. – Julie Melville

The bathroom in the standard room was exceptionally large and modern, giving great value for money.

We have stayed here three times now, visiting my son at the university. We have always found the staff most helpful and polite. The room is clean and comfortable and the breakfast was good and plentiful. N/A

A traditional British hotel in a quiet leafy suburb of Sheffield, on land next to Sheffield University and close to hospitals and the city centre; the beautiful Sheffield Botanic Gardens are a short stroll away. All the staff we met at Halifax Hall were friendly, professional and helpful. Our bedroom was delightful – fully equipped, quiet and very comfortable, with a Nespresso machine and plenty of capsules at a station on the landing, plus complimentary snacks, biscuits, tea and coffee top‑ups. The breakfast was truly excellent; the “full‑English” spread was exceptional, freshly cooked, piping hot and the best breakfast my husband can remember in any hotel, UK or abroad. We liked everything about this lovely hotel and hope to stay again if we visit Sheffield. Highly recommended and very good value. The only downside was that we were attending an event at the Crucible Centre, a short pleasant walk from the hotel. The venue opened at 6.15pm and we wanted a light meal at the hotel first. The restaurant is a very pleasant place with an enticing menu, but it didn’t open until 6.30pm. We wanted something more substantial, so we returned to the hotel after the event to eat there, but when we got back at 8.40pm the restaurant was already closed. There were no obvious eating‑out options nearby, so we ended up at the bar with a drink and a bag of crisps, which the young bar staff kindly served “on the house.” The restaurant’s opening hours could perhaps be a little longer, as we would have liked to enjoy a meal there. Other than that, everything about Halifax House was fantastic.
