I sometimes get confused by ratings. Before discovering Carolinas, I stayed a couple of days at a spot near the city centre that had a 9.0 rating, but I wouldn’t have rated it higher than a 7. Carolinas is listed as 7.5, but I would give it a solid 9. It’s close to the bus stop to the city centre, or about a 25‑minute walk if you prefer. It sits in a very safe and upscale part of San José, near Barrio Escalante and Barrio Dent, and it’s only about a 5‑minute walk from plenty of great restaurants and bars. Luca, the manager, was very welcoming and helpful, and the cleaning staff were wonderful as well. Everyone made me feel very welcome and taken care of. Thank you, everyone! I’ll definitely come back whenever I need to run errands in the city.

The place was clean and tidy. The breakfast was very late at 8:00 am.

The room was spacious and comfortable, and the staff handled my arrival nicely. I should bring cash because there can be extra fees when paying the room with a card. The place is quite noisy and there is no shared kitchen.
