“A Great Rural Experience with Super Hosts”
My wife and I just came back from Northern Portugal where we stayed at Solar do Alambique with Helena and Armindo. They were excellent hosts and we realized that staying outside the main town or city in a more rural setting can greatly broaden your experience. Solar do Alambique is a very traditional hotel. Our room was nice and clean, the bed was superbly made each day along with clean towels in the bathroom, which had a super walk‑in shower enclosure with plenty of hot water. Breakfast (not English) was good quality with some homemade items that were very tasty. The lounge, TV, dining room had coffee/tea making facilities handy and the panoramic views over the countryside were breathtaking. The “Alambique” (traditional still) is still in use and, although it is not accessible while in use, it was very interesting to see. Hosts Armindo and Helena deserve congratulations for their hard work and continued efforts to make guests feel welcomed and accommodated. We will definitely return if we’re in the area again. Note: this hotel offers a rural experience, not in the city center. The location of Solar do Alambique provides so much from a location perspective.
