This is a classic Japanese inn. The staff are friendly and very attentive, and the rooms are spacious and very clean. The inn is located in the Zao Onsen resort, which is rather quiet and sleepy during the early autumn weekdays. In this season you can hike nicely and enjoy the wonderful onsens fed by hot, sulfurous spring water. I liked the on‑site onsen a lot and visited it often. For people expecting a conventional hotel: there are no elevators and it is a rather labyrinthine, sprawling building with many stairs. We had our large luggage sent directly to the next accommodation by a transport service because we only stayed two nights, which made the trip more convenient. Those who have difficulty walking should inform the inn beforehand so a suitable room can be assigned. Additionally, our room itself had no shower; the showers are in the onsen bath, so anyone needing a private shower should take that into account. We booked half‑board, and both breakfast and dinner were wonderful. Both were very refined and detail‑loving Japanese cuisine. A great experience that I highly recommend. The beds were very comfortable, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We would love to come back.
